Cinema Under the Pines:
Proud Sponsor of #TIFF screenings by The Creemore Film Club

There is a particular kind of Friday evening in Creemore that is hard to explain to someone who hasn’t experienced it. The shops along Mill Street are closing up. The smell of something good drifts out of one of the restaurants on the main drag. And somewhere on Caroline Street, a small crowd is gathering — not for a concert, not for a market, but for a film. A genuinely good one.

This is the Creemore Film Club, and Suzanne Lawrence is proud to be a sponsor.

2026 - Inaugural Season of The Creemore Film Club

The Creemore Film Club (CFC) is presented by the Purple Hills Arts and Heritage Society (PHAHS) — a not-for-profit organization that has long been the cultural heartbeat of Creemore village and the surrounding area.

In partnership with TIFF Film Circuit, the official outreach arm of the Toronto International Film Festival, the CFC brings world-class cinema to the heart of small-town Ontario on eight Friday evenings throughout the year.

This is not a multiplex experience. Think cocktails, a glass of local wine or beer, popcorn, and a film that has something meaningful to say about the world — screened in the company of neighbours, newcomers, and people who chose this place precisely because it offers this kind of experience.

The 2026 series runs from February 20 through November 20, with screenings each month except July, August, and December. It is one of the quieter, more rewarding reasons to live here where town and country meet.

Honoured to be Approached as Main Sponsor

Suzanne Lawrence is a proud sponsor of the Creemore Film Club, presented by the Purple Hills Arts and Heritage Society in partnership with TIFF Film Circuit.

Suzanne has spent more than two decades helping people find their place in this landscape — not just the right property, but the right life. And the Creemore Film Club is exactly the kind of thing she means when she talks about what makes Town and Country living so worth choosing.

Our role is not only to market a home,” Suzanne often says, “but to market the lifestyle and community that surrounds it.

The Film Club is that lifestyle, made visible. It is the Friday evening that reminds you why you moved here, or why you’re thinking about it.

Supporting the arts in Creemore is not an add-on for Suzanne — it is an extension of the same care and investment she brings to every transaction, every relationship, and every part of her work in this community.

THE SECRET AGENT

The Secret Agent — O Agente Secreto in its original Portuguese — is the most decorated film of the 2025 international festival circuit, and one of the most urgent and beautifully crafted political thrillers in recent memory.

The next screening is not one to miss.

Written and directed by the acclaimed Brazilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho, the film follows Armando (played with devastating precision by Wagner Moura), a former university professor navigating the brutal machinery of Brazil’s military dictatorship — a man who must choose between flight and resistance, between safety and conscience.

The film is at once a deeply personal portrait and a sweeping historical reckoning. Mendonça Filho — already beloved internationally for Aquarius and Bacurau — delivers his most mature work yet: atmospheric, meticulous, and profoundly human. Wagner Moura, best known internationally for his role as Pablo Escobar in Narcos, gives what many critics have called the performance of his career.

The Secret Agent is also notable as the final film appearance of Udo Kier, the legendary German actor whose extraordinary career spanned more than five decades and over 200 films.

THE AWARDS

2025 Cannes Film Festival — World premiere May 18, 2025. Festival’s most awarded film: Best Actor (Wagner Moura), Best Director (Kleber Mendonça Filho), Art House Cinema Award, FIPRESCI Prize for Best Film.

83rd Golden Globe Awards — First Brazilian film nominated for Best Motion Picture – Drama. Won Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama (Wagner Moura) and Best Foreign Language Film.

98th Academy Awards — Nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor (Wagner Moura), Best Casting, and Best International Feature Film.

This is the kind of film that stays with you — the kind you find yourself still thinking about on the drive home through the dark country roads, past the farms and the maples and the creek crossings. It belongs in Creemore.

WLIVING IN A PLACE LIKE CREEMORE, WHERE TOWN AND COUNTRY MEET

One of the things that surprises people when they move to the country is how rich the cultural life turns out to be. They expect the landscape. They expect the skiing and the hiking and the farmers’ market on the Village Green in Creemore.

They don’t always expect the film club, the gallery, the concert in the heritage church, the visiting chef at the local restaurant.

But this is what where town and country meet® actually means. It means that the move from the city doesn’t require a cultural trade-off. It means Friday evenings like this one — a remarkable film, a glass of something good, and the particular pleasure of watching something meaningful with people who chose the same beautiful corner of the world that you did.

If you’re curious about what life in this part of Ontario really looks like — the properties, the communities, the rhythm of it — we’d love to talk.
